again, I just love all the tracks on it but if I had to choose one then it'd be "the god vs the devil"....wanna now why? well - just listen!

the record was dropped back in 99 (the CD a year before in 98) on the Fistfulyayen Label, distribution also by Superscience Sex (like the Omnigod-12").

aight...u thought that blog was dead?

well, personally I had the same feelings for long time for various reasons. main thing surely was that my damn laptop has a loose contact which results in mono recordings only (great!). then I was and am freakily busy with my job, fam etc.

well, since my homie Hightower (check for "TheMrHightower" on youtube where he is reviewin crazy stuff) ripped these vinyls for me I'm able to finally spread again some great music...hope u gonna enjoy!

In march 2010 I already made a review about the good man PARANORM. meanwhile I got in contact with him and he was kind enough to send me some amazing records which Ima present u now.

first is his contribution in the crew OMNIGOD (= Paranorm, DJ Doz, Another Dimension & Shinichi). this wax was released in 2002 on the Superscience Sex label and according to Paranorm only pressed about 100 times! the 3 tracks on it are all pure fire but personally I dig the "keep my head up" joint the most...but listen urself and decide.

NOTE: this is a full rip including clean, dirty versions and instrumentals plus the shit is in high-quality 320kbps - enjoy!!!

and mad props again to Hightower for the ripz!

the name of the artist here is...

I googled this record and artist and couldn't find any other link than to this twelve here and am not sure if this is his only release.

the wax was dropped in 1999 on Nexus Records and as the run-out is ....001 I assume it was the first (and only?) record on this label .

anyway - on it u gonna find the main title which is pure heat: "supreme soloist". if u dunno then listen to it and I'm sure most of u cats gonna agree this shit gives u "audio-orgasms"!

the b-side brings you "rhymes adventurous" which is a really solid and smooth track and I even can live with that female chorus-part as it somehow fits to the whole melody.

aka Dr Becket. Dude is active since the late 90s already and I'm sury y'all know most of his earlier releases (check discogs and then youtube where u can find lots of his older work). if u wanna get in touch wit him then check his myspace.

back to the twelve here which is available in tha tube but downloading from there is sometimes not known to peeps and then quality may not be best...

here u can get that delicious wax from 2001 with the crazy smooth track "lyrixcism"...relax, puff lah (if u do so) and simply enjoy it! on the flip u get "hittin hardest pt.2" which is solid but isn't as dope as the original.

next piece is an EP titled "docta bec" which is limited to 200 copies only and mad nice considering that the material is from 2007 "only". all the 6 tracks on it are freakin dope - using a lot of laid back jazz n blues tunes. if u didn't hear that wax already def give it a try - this is another record from him that is mad underrated and when looking at all his work I really wonder why dude didn't get more credit in all these years!?!!

nice lil compilation on the small "Inquisitive Records" label, dropped in 2002.

title of this comp is:

the reason I bought this wax is the side with the 2 tracks from the Michigan crew COMMON GROUND (DJ Heavy, Jayem & J.C. Inquisitive) which are the mellow n easygoing "react" and "yathinkitsjus" which uses pretty crazy samples that convinced me to buy this cheapo some years ago.

the flipside contains a track by Common Ground's main producer: Lacks aka Lacksidaisycal aka Elevator Music... title is "what's up" and the tune is rather kinda club-joint that ain't really my cup of tea. last track on the wax is a beat by Lacks (Elevator Music) - a nice one to relax for sure!

I present you here a nice piece outta 2004 from the crew (LE) CASE NEGRE.

The crew is part of the French Boogotop massiv and from what I know started to get the first shines back in the mid 90s when they were featured on famous DJ Cut Killer's mixtapes. If discogs data's correct then their first own release was in 98 and personally I also only know of the 2 wax mentioned there. you can go the youtube (here) and have a listen...

about this record:

well, as mentioned this was dropped in 2004 (only) but this should not keep u away from givin' it a try (also not cuz it's not an English rappin' record)!

I first saw the main title "bout de vie" on French "zik"-music channel and was blown away by that fuckin sick beat and it's damn heavy bassline! hardcore-tunez for y'all ears!!

but as the record was an independent drop, distribution was freakin' poor and it was a hassle to get such a copy (I finally found one bout 2 years later in a 2nd hand store).

only then I noticed the other 2 tracks on the flipside and was even more happy! not only I had this sick a-sider "bout de vie" but on the flip there was also a really smooth and relaxing track titled "les temps". the last track is called "aux portes de la folie" - another pretty solid track!

well, give it a try and let me know if u feelin this wax too!

time again for some non-english-rappin stuff in here so op'n yo' earz!

the twelve of today is one I got (more or less) since it dropped back then in 97 on the Polydor label. OTIERRE (also OTR) is the name of this quite popular crew from Varese, Italy. The super-group formed in 1991 and broke in 1998. during this period OTR had quite a lot of emcees (Esa, Polare, Torrido, Azza, Intruso, Limite) and DJs (Fede, Irmu, Vigor, Vez, Nitro) and on this 12" as well as the respective LP (titled "dalla sede") they also featured female emcee La Pina. La Pina was born in Florence and is kind of the Italian rap queen as she's told to be the 1st female rapper in this country.

let's talk about the content: on this nice vinyl u gonna find 2 tracks which is the main title "rispettane l'aroma" - a nice head-nodder and my absolute favorite and also kinda anthem for me n the homies back then on the flipside, "play our position". I remember that all the times this track was played at jams the crowd would just go absolutely nuts! "play your position" also features guest emcee from Bruxelles' (Belgium) CNN crew - Rivalcapone.

I know that many of my readers are not really willin' to listen to stuff they don't understand but I definitely recommend to give this sh*t a try. I'm pretty positive u won't regret it, especially cuz of dat b-sider "play our position"!

what's good peepz? another rip from my cratez. this time it's about the emcee HORESON J.A.E. & (DJ) EDUARDO SCIZZAHANDZ from Flint, MI.

The 2 had their debut appearance on a cassingle when they were in the group "Phunky Lab Munkeez" (together with Ed's younger bro BOY WONDER). Find here the track "klassic emcee" from that work from 1997.

Then in the late 90's and early 2000 J.A.E. & Ed released several tracks and among these he was able to drop the great "translation regulation-12" on the "A Lab Cult" label in 2001.

The wax comes with 3 songs: "translation regulation" as the main title. on the flip-side you gonna find the tracks "in time jesus returns" and the great posse-track "march madness" that features the emcees PUGSLEE ATOMZ, NAME OBSCURE, OPTIMUS PRIME, O-TYPE STAR and J.U.I.C.E.

all 3 tracks are from very good to f?ckin great IMO - I really dig this record and consistently spin it on the decks since I bought that wax back in 01.

as I said already, J.A.E. dropped also some other tracks in the early 2000 and here you can get 2 of them - enjoy! BTW: these 2 tracks were produced by STARVING ARTISTS CREW members IQ and SP.

here's one about the duo ...

the duo originally comes from South Bend, Indiana (Paranorm meanwhile lives in LA) and had their debut in 1999 on Beastie Boys Grand Royal Label. the duo is still very active and you can find them both on mysapce (paranorm / dj strictnine). Plus I especially recommend Paranorms (aka Parakhan) site here as you can get tons of free mp3s from his work! amazing and big up to the Killa Wolf (another aka of him) for upping those!

now back to the initail purpose of this post which is the debut mentioned above - the "mic reaction-12" on Grand Royal. you get totally 4 tracks on this wax: mic reaction / human ebola / planet wicked & psychological profiles. all the tracks are freakin dope! chilled, dark, spherical....just love that! IMO the best tune is "planet wicked" but make your own decisions...

this wax here is his first effort (outta 3 drops totally) and contains the well known burner "blowin spots" and a 2nd track titled "bran nu flow".

both cuts are great IMO....dark, slow n grim stuff, just what I like!

here's another record I dug out in my cratez and considerin' the dust on it I got the impression that this is a vinyl I didn't listen to since ages! it is kinda EP here comin' from a cat named Anomos...

to my knowledge this dude is outta Staten Island and had bout 3 releases. this one here, then the "why live EP" (check discogs) and an album titled "from here on..." which he did with his buddy Stealth (Bomber). back to this EP here that is havin' the title "in the making..." EP. it totally brings you 4 tracks from which 2 are also on the other EP. "why live" is also here the main title and is no different to the track on the other EP. the tune itself is pretty dope and I even like the vocals by singer Markeda P. next title is the super-spherical-n-chilled-out song "how I see it" ... light up da Ls! on the flipside is the posse-track "3 on 3" featuring the emcees Stealth Bomber, Fresh Meat, Gee Money, Pope the Arch Bishop and MAL. btw - this track can also be found on their other EP...the last tune is another great one and to me the best on this wax titled "real to me". the record was released on NPO Records in 1998 (I'll try to add this record in discogs too....ASAP).

unfortunately not a lotta information bout that dude. I remember hearing that main title "say what" bout 5-7 years ago on one of the first indie-compilations I downloaded in the net (yeah call me late bloomer 4 dat!). during the years with new tunez comin' in on wax and mp3 I forgot bout that track and then, maybe 1 year ago I found that wax while diggin' in a homies cellar-cratez - nice random pick!

only then I also discovered that the track on the flipside - "it don't stop" is actually quite dope too.

the twelve has been released on Lost Trybe Records in 1997. it mentions on the label that this is from the forthcomin' album "all hell breaks loose" but I think this is another album that never saw the daylight...

Finally back with a new review of an emcee that goes by the name of...

"good things come to those that wait" and this here is def something really good so all the waitin' u had to go thru hopefully paid off...

let's get back to the man on the mic that is called PARADIGM, civil name Mark Petras. he is reppin' Westchester, NYC but by his dialect I'd say he ain't born New Yorker. also when I check his other work he did in the crew Speakeasy I'd rather come to the conclusion that this guy originates from Canada (but I also can be completely wrong on that)...

anyway, it is about the music so let's focus on that. Paradigm - to my knowledge - dropped about 3 records minimum and from them 2 are to be shown here (the last one is rather crap IMO).

I start with his debut(?) in 1998 that was released on probably his own label titled Westchester Records.

I remember when I first heard that record at my buddy's crib. my fella played that 1st track from this twelve that is named "leverage" and the dark grim stuff got me hooked within a few seconds already! the next tune on this lovely 3-tracker is titled "42 dimensional" - a very "spherical" and pushin' beat. last but def not least comes "late night" that is an absolutely laid-back song and a great finish of this wax!

the next vinyl from this cat was released in 2001 on the FreshChest label and is a bomb of an EP! six tracks and I almost like every single tune on it to the fullest! my favorites among these are def "faulty arrows" where Paradigm is using the quite popular sample from "Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick that was also used by CAGE in his track "agent orange" (Fondle'Em Records). other brilliant songs are "easter sunday" with its great oriental melody, "candle dogma" - another pretty dark tune and "desert winds". listen to it, I'm sure u gonna like that ish too!

well - I know, I know... I keep u waitin' for new reviews but somehow don't find the time to drop them...

basically there are 2 reasons for that:

one - I haven't achieved yet to do the settings in the rip-program on the new laptop so the quality of the tracks is good. you don't wanna get tunes in a freakin' low quality and I don't wanna waste time rippin' something I wouldn't even wanna listen to myself.

two - it's summer-time and honestly said I rather stay outside chillin' with friends, go swimmin' n all that instead of sittin' at home...

still I really wanna get this laptop & program workin' smoothly so I can share some more jewels in here ASAP (I got plenty left to bring and as every other digger; new stuff is always comin' in!)...

Yeah I know it’s a long time since the last post in here but I need to install all software n shit on the new laptop since the old one said „good-bye!“ (R.I.P. you lil’ freakin piece of shit…). So keep an eye on this blog again as I’m quite positive that I get this whole thing workin again very soon and bring some new reviews in here (I got plenty of great indie-wax that is waitin to get some shine in here).
Anyway – this post here is to push my homie’s new online record-shop he recently launched.

HEADZ is the name of the shop and in there u gonna find all sorts of vinyl from Rap classics, to indie and the new stuff, German, French and some Swiss rap and also some breaktbeats, scratch tools etc. besides that he also got a smaller section with Soul / R’n’B, plus some dancehall & reggae vinyls.

Wassup peepz? Today I’m bringin’ you a pretty sick EP outta the the land of fish’n’chips that goes by the name…

I haven’t heard of this crew so far and the record was a random pick to make worth my overseas shipping costs. THE PESKY VARMINTS from the UK dropped this piece on the Cid Records label. You get served with 3 tracks totally that are: “bravelung” and “mr. majestic” – both tracks have a very industrial touch and also sound a lil bit like Co’ Flow. So these 2 tracks are very solid, not spectacular but also not crap in any kind but the best track on the EP is definitely the last one that is titled “peskaton remix”. Oh boy, how I like the samples bein’ used in there plus the nice beat that fits perfectly IMO. Ya can bet that I had to puff sum lah and enjoy that track when I got that wax some days ago!
Cuts n scratches on all tracks were done by Mr Gravity and Dr Strangearm – production was all done by Strangearm.

I did a short research online but so far couldn’t get any further information about the crew and if they have more stuff than this here so additional information is always welcome in the comments-section.

Here is another record that obviously not too many people know off…

NON MC’S is the crew name and apparently those cats is comin’ from the rotten apple NYC. Not much to say bout the members as I simply don’t have any clue but at least one of the producers – Fran Lover – ain’t a completely unknown in this game as he also realized productions for other acts like Pudgee, Daddy-O, Sticky Fingaz, Nighthawks etc.
The fax bout tha wax: released in 1999 on a label that attracted lots of attention by its earlier 94-release named “Tha East Comin Thru EP” (with Madman Shawn etc.) – East New York Entertainment.
The content: unfortunately you only get radio and instrus but well – I can live with that…the first track is my ish already! “no” – as simple as this – is a pretty smooth tune with a laidback beat. Perfect to get away from it all! “feel it” is the next tune and brings you sound-wise the good-mood-vibes. When u listen to this beat it kinda feels like ur chillin at the beach with a nice drink in your hand and just enjoy the good life! “da ha” is the last track and – at least text-wise – the sickest of them all. The beat is not really my type but the rhymes are so strange I had to rip that too…

On the label of this vinyl you can also see that the guys also refer to a “forthcoming” album titled “nonbelievers”. I guess it only remained with this as I couldn’t find any further info that would confirm the existence of such an LP. If you know more then holla in the comments, thx!

Back again wit a nice piece of wax where u should know (at least) the crew that is …

Most of you know their debut (?) EP from 1998 that was featured – amongst others – on Lordquaz blog long time ago and that is on many wantlists too (a hype you can also see in the ridiculous ebay-game where cats si spending more than 200bucks for that vinyl!). I didn’t rip that EP as you can easily get the tunes on youtube and many other blogs…
Here it is about another EP they dropped on the same (Guillotine Records) label as their amazing 98-EP. This one’s outta 2000 and comes with 3 tracks. Now before you listen to these tracks be aware that they won’t sound like their old stuff. This doesn’t mean that the tunez here are crap – definitely not – but you can’t compare with the older work from them as you get served here with a totally different style.
On the main side you find the banger “where stars are born”. I really like the easiness that is created by that clear piano sample and the beat is also pushin yo ass so I guess that makes it a winner already. Rhyme-wise the crew is reppin their boro – Brooklyn in a pretty solid way.
On the flip you find the next song that is titled “dead end street” – a solid track where the MCs is working a lot with analogies. The last track is “lissen to this” - another solid piece but I guess it will need some time for you to grow on that (as it was the case to me).

Today comes a rip from a kind of vinyl I usually do not have in my cratez. It is from the pretty famous crew we all know as ….

As you can guess by the label-scan the wax here is a bootleg but in this case I really didn’t give a damn lil f?ck. this ep has all the dope songs on it plus tracks that ain’t available on wax (at least what I know) so it was the reason to buy this record when it came out (what was the case around 2004-05). Besides the facts above it was also very obvious to buy this EP as all the legit pressings (e.g. “american dream”) were sold at crazy prices those days whereas nowadays one can get such C.o.t.C twelves for a bargain.
So this boot was def the solution to me and cuz u got all those great tracks on it it’s also why I still play it often on my wheels!
Also as far as I know there aren’t many of those pressings around. So far (of course I didn’t check on a regular basis) I haven’t seen any of those poppin up at ebay, gemm, discogs or similar sources and the only country I really found them in stores (online or “live”) were here in good ol Switzerland! I also heard that this boot was done by some Swiss heads and finally pressed in Poland but don’t know if this is true…also rumours about pressing-quantities say that it goes between 300-500pcs. maximum!
Anyway, let’s spill some short facts bout the wax n crew:
The ep brings you the tracks “a star is born”, “American dream”, “fare one pt2”, “get wit it”, “give up the game”, “paint the town red”, “harlem usa” and “harlem usa (uptown)”.

Well then as a replacement I hit you with this mad nice wax outta BK from …

Usually I love to pass some knowledge bout a record I put in here but this one’s again in the category of “obscure ish with no data”. This simply means that besides the info on the label I cannot share any other useful or reliable data. If u google it then you get about a dozen of ebay-links – all to the same seller who tries to get rid of this wax for the ridiculous amount of 40bucks! It always feels great if u know that u didn’t pay a tenth of such an amount for such obscure vinyl….
Anyway, let’s focus on the content: on the main you get served wit a track called “from dusk till dawn”. This nicely arranged beat has some awesome chorus and keyboard-samples that got me instantly hooked when listenin to it the 1st time!
On the flipside you will find the title “thug sport”. To me this song is rather mediocre, can’t really explain why but maybe some of you might like that tune…gotta form your own opinion on that!
Label-wise this record was released on Soundscope Music – as far as I remember a label I didn’t hear before and the release-year was 1998.

Here’s another record from the 4x4 Records label from which we brought you already the release of One Strength.

This vinyl here’s from to me pretty much unknown rapper DES. He released this twelve in 1996 but when you listen to the 2 tracks then you wouldn’t guess so! both tracks are pretty experimental, especially the b-sider “throw ya hands” that has almost no real bass line and only lives with a few well placed beats n samples here n there! The main track “manetane” on the other hand is kinda trying to balance the lack of melody in the b-sider by almost overwhelming the tune with samples after samples…
Nevertheless don’t get me wrong – I really like that record but those tracks are definitely going under the category of “tracks that need to grown on one” and “manetane” grew a lot on me since I got this wax!

BBR & BRIZ (Arrakis Records)

In this post I bring you two releases outta the millennium year and from a fine Illadelph indie label that was know as ….

ARRAKIS RECORDS. The label was founded (as far as I know) around the late 90s and had its first releases in this period. I bring you here the releases number 1 and 3 from this label…

The wax that obviously marks the birth of this label (ARRKS01 – runout) is coming from a crew that goes by the name of BBR which is an abbreviation for "Big Brother Resistance".
BBR consists of producer SupremeEx (aka Stinke) and the two emcees Tim T and PCP. The main title is called “spityn’” which is a certified banger that also features emcee BRIZ (will get back at this dude later in this post). The turntable skills were performed by DJ Kwestion who is famous for his contributions on another Phillie-crew – the Jedi Mind Tricks.
The 2nd track is titled “verbal leviathan” - a super relaxed song featuring emcee Kenneth Masters (here credited as the Anonymous) and DJ Charlie Brownski. The bonus cut on this record is a real hidden treasure. “two-o-one-to-the-three” (2013) is the title and this beat is filled with spherical samples that let your minds go on an astral-journey rite away!
Now, as you may see on my label scan this record shows release date 2000 whereas in discogs it says 1998. also the main title is spelled differently but still it has same runout as my copy…. If anyone knows more bout that then please share some light in the comments section…thx!

BRIZ who already spit on BBR’s “spityin’” got here his time to shine when he could release his own twelve with the tracks “cannons” that features the Black Narcissist and on the b-side “streets stages”:
“cannons” is a pretty sombre tune with a sec and constantly repeatin’ guitar-sample. “street stages” is my fav on this vinyl. Also pretty dark in its appearance but definitely with some more power/energy behind than the main title….

What’s good diggers? Here’s a short (cause simply missing information) review about …

P.TEKILLA. as I said already, besides the information stated on the label there's not much more I can say.
The wax contains 3 tracks from which I only ripped the burner “off tha wall”…the rest is medium to poor in my rating. Label is Whyoh Ent. and the record was released in 1998.
Production wise is Garsha Vega the man responsible for this piece here and I’m sure you know Garsh also from other productions he did e.g. for NOTS Click and Ei8 (Ei8ghtrak).

Finally a new review in this blog as the re-upping session’s eventually came to an end! The fine wax to be presented in here comes from the New Yorker producer duo…

DA PHATHEDZ. The producer-combo is actually two brothers (twins to be exact) that lives in queens and that is still very active in producing (under the synonym “Da TuneRaiderz”) and engineering (as “Da Phathedz”). The duo is production-wise not only limited to Hip Hop but also in latin styles and reggaeton (check their myspace site here) and besides that they also co-own the label Gladiator Records. During their long career Da Phathedz already produced & engineered many songs for artists like Q-Tip, Rah Digga, Masta Ace, Tragedy Khadafi etc. and, as they say, various other well and not so well known acts. The production you find is definitely one of the category “not so know artists”…

This fine piece of vinyl is an ep, pressed on a special 10” format. The name of the ep is “Da Nay-Ba-Hood Goodz & Treats” and it brings some good beats plus two great tracks that feature some totally unknown emcees. This review is about those two rap-songs…
“for the year” is the first banger and features a man on the mic that goes by the name of Tera Lo. The tune is rather sec and laid-back and fits perfectly to the easy flow of Tera Lo!
“darkness surrounds me” is performed by Lord Rebel and as you can imagine by the title already – shit is really sombre!

CARTEL. Don’t have any kind of useful information on the crew but what is for sure is that this is a follow up single that was released to this earlier release here. Again you find on this record here the remix of “malt & liquor” which is my favourite tune on the wax. On the flipside you get served with a new track called “armed & dangerous” that is quite solid but not really my thing as sounding too hectic…

Grrreetings! Today a sweet goodie sponsored by my man Onur again. Appearing like an emerald here I go to present you…

ILL SOURCE. There’s not much information to share bout those cats. The record got much attention the last few months as the track “devastation” was used on several mixtapes around the globe. This lil hype obviously already created the strong will in some diggers heads to get crazy on the wax and bid hard at “tha bay”. Guess that’s why the last copy seen on ebay went for more than 70bucks!!! C’mon people – it’s a fresh wax but IMO never worth this amount of cream!
Anyway let’s get to the content on this twelve. The a-side is giving you the very solid tune “immaculate” that starts with an introduction that is taken from a medieval movie (it may be “Braveheart” but not sure…). I already apologize for the 2 skips you can hear at the beginning of the tune. Dunno if they’re on the record or from my needlz that need to be replaced once! On the flipside is the banger track I was talking bout above – “devastation”.
When my homie Onur played this track the 1st time (I didn’t know that gem before!) I experienced damn goosebumps! I think the reason to that are the spherical synthesizer sounds that are just awesome and build the main structure of that track. Rhyme wise it ain’t the best though but who cares with such a damn dope beat?
The vinyl was released approx. 1996 on the unknown Blue House Ent. Label.

Well then – another great record outta the cratez of my buddy Onur that is going under the name of …

Dnd. If the name doesn’t ring bells then maybe this will help more….BRASS TACKS! Dnd is one of the original members of this crew and here he dropped this fine and not very well known piece in 2000 on the small Gammatainment label.
The a-side has 3 tracks on it (all only in clear versions), starting with the title track “w5h”. I really like this one much cuz of the pushing beat and the sombre atmosphere the melody is creating (also with the fine violin samples in the chorus). The 2nd track is not my thing but make your own decision as I still ripped it…
The last track titled “romantics” is my fav song on the wax. Dark n grim is how that song comes to ya ears and it definitely reminds me style wise of their also very sombre masterpiece called “cityscapes ep”.

Back again wit some very nice records from my man Onur (mad thanx for this homie!)…

UNDADAWGZ is the crew-name on this very obscure record right here. The Dawgz consist of the two emcees Dash-O and Big Pook, both from Flatbush area. Personally I never heard of those cats and also Onur didn’t have much of an idea what he ordered that time so this was a real lucky punch as the tunez on this wax are excellent!
“1st thingz 1st” is the starter of the record and a certified banger already. I like the various well known samples that were used in the refrain part and the beat itself is just that grime stuff that brings back the good old 90s flava…..ruffness! the b-side begins with the super smooth “me & my juel (against the world)” that is another awesome song and enhances the dopeness of this 12”! the last tune again is a damn head-nodder – “I roc dis”. A typical track bout reppin’ himself with some very nice n funny metaphors as for example this one: “I’m not from Phoenix but I spit in yo face like Charles Barkley!” yeah man, that’s the good ol days when you also had great and unique b-ballers…..oh my – just dwellin’ in memories….

As i just had to get a 2nd copy for a friend of mine it reminded me that I could post this absolutely nice 12“ in here as well so here we go with…

UNIVERSAL 7. Unfortunately I don’t have any further information bout the crew but this wax got my attention back then when it also got mad airplay in my country. The two banger-tracks were released on the that time very young Rawkus label (in 1996: this was one of the first releases to appear there!) and still it is a very underrated record. You can easily find this wax on various locations and always for very decent prices…
To the content: on the main side Universal 7 brings the first great tune titled “talk that talk” – man you rarely get the chance to listen to such smooth gems and this is one of those! The flipside has another gem ready for you that is called “ain’t a damn thing” – and this tune is killing me too!
All in all a super dope twelve that is mad recommended to also find a place in your crates!

Today some mad nice ish outta Brooklyn from a crew that goes by the name of…

aka THE BLACK ROSE KARTEL. To get more information about this fam from Brownsville I recommend you to hit the discogs entry. There you will also see that parts of this cartel here are also members of the other Wu-related massive called UNITED KINGDOM from which we showed you already a release in here.
The Rose Family was one of the first acts that got signed by the that time rather unknown Rawkus label and also one of the reasons why it got credit. Unfortunately I just know of this one record by the Fam and don’t think there are other drops by them. You can find solo-projects of some of their members and also features they had on other productions but as far as I know this twelve here is the only one from the Fam (correct if I’m wrong!).
The wax was released in 1996 and also there I’m not sure if it ever got an official release as all the copies I’ve seen so far (as you also can see on my label-scan) were promos only…
Anyway, let’s head to the two tracks on that gem. The main title is “beaches & crème” that is a very smooth tune where rhymes flowin’ light-footed over the melodious beat. I also recommend you to check youtube that will show you the clip to this song. the b-side comes with the quite sick n grim “hah!” that I really like. I only knew of the main title and when I first heard the flipside I was like “damn f?!k – what a great tune” so this is why I play this ish more than the other one when I throw the wax on my decks…

Alright peeps. Here’s a white label of a rapper you wouldn’t expect to appear in an indy-dedicated blog. Well, I upped this piece upon a request of a very good friend of mine for reasons I’ll come back later in this post.

Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones better known as simply NAS is responsible for this white label rite here that is a fine one-tracker (radio / instrumental) titled “sinful living”. Not many know (even it’s not listed in discogs) that this is available as a 12” (not only on this “It was remixed….rare unreleased & remixed” album from 2004). I’m not sure when exactly the single was dropped but must have been in the late 90s as since then I got that piece in my cratez.
The reason I show this one here in the blog is that my buddy asked me to up it as it is to me n my homes a kind of reminiscing bout our friend Mikey who passed some years ago and these days will be the anniversary of that sad day again. So the track was always one of those we would play back then when we had crazy parties full of booze n other ish and we all know that the tune was one of the most beloved tracks from Mikey!
To all those that dunno this tune I really recommend it. Very smooth melody that easily lets you chill…

Back with another obscure record outta my cratez, comin from the crew

FOOT SOLJAAZ. The two-man-strong team is most popular cuz of its track “from hoes to doe” which (at least in my area) got mad airplay and was something you could hear at every good jam that time! DJ Espionage reviewed this wax in his blog so have a look n listen to it if you dunno so far!
Well enuff of dat record, let’s head to the other one I got from those guys. The vinyl was released in the same year as the above mentioned, 1998 that is and was on the same Blak Lable. Foot Soljaaz are ZIG ESP & Otherwize and they both come outta the fields of Californian “Good Life” project. They dropped only few singles (personally I only know of these two here) and then joined and toured with the “Blak Forest” project. Later on Wize continued with his solo-career and dropped sum great tunes as e.g. “some other ish” (blackberry records 1999).
The record starts with the very sec battle-rhyme stylish track “zig e.s.p. & otherwize” where they rep demselves and diss other emcees not keeping it real. The next tune is titled “zonin” and captivates with its constant and slow-moving piano. The winner to me is the last track with the nice title “betta kall it kwitz” – a damn sombre and psychedelic masterpiece!

Another record from Mista Onur’s crate – this time from…

MERDAGRAM. The main title on the vinyl is already the best track – “da craziest”. Slow beat, very sweet melody and the 3 emcees rhyming over that construction in a very chilled way – smooth! On the flip side you get the tracks “who’s shorty” where Merdagram are rappin bout the opposite sex. “last birth” is the last tune – a quite turbid one where the beat is really lumberin’ and the organ is also slowin’ down every kinda speed n vitality. Not really my taste but check out by yourself!

anyway, all in all it's a record that I also would luv to own as this main track "da craziest" is so damn thrillin' to me!

I don’t have much to say bout the 2 acts here. As far as I know Deep Tranz is outta Brooklyn, Street Relics from Queens. The a-side with Deep Tranz brings the tracks “it’s only getting’ worse” and “handle your biz”. On the other side you find Street Relics’ “life becomes” and “combine for wartime”. All tracks are quite dark n grime – just the ish that keeps my head noddin!

The wax was released on the Queens label Kombined Mindz Ent. that is run by Ron Mills and Cee da Cuban. Their goal was to bring out new talents with their label and so they also helped other cats like e.g. NUT-RAGOUS to release stuff. In 2002 they also dropped a full length CD titled “the collection” which is also pretty dope.

Here we go with two very nice records of an emcee straight outta Queens, NYC…

ODIN. Besides where this homie is comin from I cannot share much other information, except the usual data from the record labels.
I’m not sure as I never seen any other wax from this guy but would say that he just dropped those 2 records Ima present you now.

The first one was dropped in 1995 on the Foot Stompin’ Records label. I’m not 100% sure but I think this is Pal Joey’s label that also did all production on both records.
The record has the track “another day” in original and 2 remix versions on it from which I definitely prefer “pal joey’s mix”. This version may sound familiar to those that also know the mixes by Alkuttraz who used this track once.

The other release was dropped in 1996 on the same label and again with Pal on the production.
On the wax you find the a-sider called “trees” that is about reppin’ himself and also kinda dedicated to the weed-smokin community out there.
On the flip is my fav (a track that got lots of airplay in 96-98 on my favorite Swiss radio stations) titled “casualties”. IMO a real head-nodder!

Today sum female power to slap round yo ears…

ANG 13 is a multitalent when it comes to Hip Hop as she ain’t only reppin her skillz on the mic but also as producer and even as actress. Angela started it all with the lovely age of thirteen (therefore ANG 13), went from break-dancing to graffiti and then to emcee & producer. As she’s from Chi-Town it was kinda fate that she would meet the crazy producer-combo THE MOLEMEN. So eventually it was also those guys that helped her to break thru and be able to drop some of her first releases so this is what I gonna up here. This record-release on the very small NMotion label was back in 1998 and the EP goes under the name of “1999 EP”. Most of the production is done by the Molemen and all told, the record is very solid IMO. If i had to choose then I’d name “what it’s like now” as my favourite on this wax.
What I really like about this emcee is that she ain’t sort of the “typical female bitch-mcs” that is mainly rappin bout clothes, dudes nu car, sex, who got the biggest tits and how to steal a man’s dough!

Alright, one about a dope Canadian producer….

2RUDE. I learned bout this cat when first heard his track “is u” on a mix some years ago. Immediately this man got credits and so I started lookin’ for his records when I was digging and it didn’t take me that long to get a hold of his first 12” he dropped in 1998 on the Canadian Ill Vibe Records label, titled “innovations”.
This tune is a rather smooth one that can show off with some great vocal parts by well known emcees SAUKRATES & PHARAO MONCH.

Sup people? Been very busy the last weeks and also in future will not look that better. This leaves not the time I’d like to rip new stuff and write the respective articles to them so that’s the reason why this board dried out lately! Well, will try to push my homes Mirro & Onur to bring sum from their cratez in here and personally will also try to find some time to contribute more again in here…
Meanwhile I dug in my old rips and found two records I didn’t show so far – hope ya’ll enjoy ‘em!

GP WU is the crew for today. For those that ain’t familiar with those catz here are the basics:
GP WU stands for “Gladiator Posse Wu” what of course refers to their link to the mighty Wu Tang Clan family. The posse consists of Pop da Brown Hornet, Rubbabandz, Down Low Recka & Juna Luva and they’re comin outta Staten Island, NY. They had their peak in the biz in the mid/late 90s when they were dropping most of their stuff (individually or in this group) but they also still active nowadays (check their myspace for that where they promote the latest Rubbabandz LP). So the first of the two wax I’m showin is from 1997, a promo released on MCA records. The titles on it are “hit me with that shit” and “party people”. Forget about the 2nd track already as it ain’t good at all but the main title is the banger!

The other record I got from them was released in the same year, on the same label and also as a promo only. Again you got the track “party people” on it and on the flip you find the best track (IMO) they ever dropped – “chamber danger”! man, I just love it how the beat is constructed; startin’ easy n low, then the vocals and after that the bass-construction that builds up until that phat bassline comes in and bangs ya ears!

Well then – another fine piece of wax to rep in here is comin’ from…

3rd DEGREE. This emcee is also known as SHAYDIE and this name should ring bells to them who listen to BLAK FOREST / URBANITES stuff as he’s part of those crews. Under the name 3rd Degree he released to my knowledge 2 twelves – “hi energy” on Up Above Records in 2000 which is the later one and his quite famous “better days b/w uprising” that I’m showin you here. the track “better days” is a rather popular tune as DJ Premier featured it on his “crooklyn cuts vol.3” and also to me it’s the better of the two songs on this record. Mr.Supreme produced a mad smooth tune over which Shaydie is kickin’ his mellow verses. The b-side brings the track “uprising” that is also quite dope but can’t hold the candle to the main track!
The record was released back in 1997 on the Seattle based label Conception Records (from which we showed you plenty of dope records so far in here) that was founded in 1993 by the two Sharpshooters members Mr. Supreme and DJ Sureshot.

Here’s a short review bout a very nice one-tracker from…

RUGGED BROOD. This crew is coming from Spring Valley NY and consists of the members ParaDox, Madmax and Flu.
On the twelve you find the song “dwellin’ in darkness” – a quite sombre tune that I’m really feelin!
The record was released in 1997 on the Raw Track label that also kicked out all the stuff from Shamus, Emar and Crimewave.
Besides this record Rugged Brood had another 2 releases on Raw Track called “what’s the impact” (check here to see our old review to this) and “non fiction b/w look out”. Also you may wanna check their myspace here as there you will find 2 other tracks I didn’t know of before and that weren’t released on Raw Track (even dunno if they exist on vinyl at all!). the titles of them tunes are “the promo” and “what’s going down”…

It’s a great pleasure to finally being able to present you this fine piece of work of international cooperation – U.S. meets France. The benefit of this collabo is an awesome track called…

WORLDWIDE. I first heard this banger on some of the crazy mixes by Ron T who used to run a famous and mad sick radio show in the mid-late 90s here in Switzerland where you would hear all the indie-jointz peeps are now looking for… Usually one gets easily French rap here in Switzerland but somehow I never was able to find this record that time here in one of the stores I’m digging…anyway – few weeks ago I finally could lay my hand on it (mad thanx Nail!). so the track “worldwide” brings totally 3 emcees to the mic: RAPHAEL (of the crew LA CLIQUA), LOUCHA (of the crew PETITS BOSS) and some verses of WU-Fam member SHYHEIM you may never have heard of before…
The b-side of this record brings a track of each of the French cats. It starts with Raphael’s “nouvel impact” a solid track but stylewise I ain’t feeling much attracted by it. However Loucha’s “les jeunes de nos quartiers” is a track that I’m feeling again and it generates a magnificent finish on this wax!
The record-data: this jewel on vinyl was pressed in 1996 on the French Arsenal Records label (same that also pressed all the La Cliqua stuff).

The Polyrhythm Addicts member dropped this record here on the same label (Core Records) he also had his debut on like four years earlier. So the wax here was released in 1999 and comes with the tracks “ima killit” – a quite solid main title, “big fronter” – the reason I bought this wax (also cuz it costed only few bucks) and the short n kinda crazy track “I think I wanna sing”.

The Molemen

Time to bring you some nice tunes outta Chicago area! When u talking bout that city n its independent rap-scene (especially in the mid/late 90s) then you just can’t pass the creative producer-combo called THE MOLEMEN.

The Molemen basically consist of the trio His-Panik, PNS and Memoriza and they started with their first release back in 1997 (with the EP titled “below the ground”). a year later they dropped a second EP that I wanna post in here as it contains some amazingly dope tracks!
The first emcee on this mini-comp is JUICE bringing the refreshing track “period” – bam there goes sledgehammer one. Hammer two and my fav on this gem is by VAKIL called “the bitness”, the harmonic but also kinda grief-stricken flute was causin goose-bumps when I heard that joint for the first! On the flip you get served with raw tunes again comin from the crew MASS HYSTERIA (from which we posted already som great ish, see here). The track is titled “vocabulary spill” and that fits pretty well as you hear Stone & Robert spillin this tune with their mad rhymes! Last but not least comes the song by one of Chi-Towns finest indie-crews – RHYMEFEST. Their track “prepare for the fest”, a rather severe tune perfectly closes this super EP!

The Molemen_buried alive-EP

The Molemen released in 2000 a compilation (unfortunately only on CD) that features both debut-EPs plus some bonus tracks that are just blazing hot – really recommend you this stuff as of course all other Molemen-ish (also the works they did the production on e.g. as Vakil, All Natural etc.).

Here’s another short review (just cuz this blog was dried out so long). Originally I planned to review this wax here long time ago already but as things go (you get new records, you smoke too much herbs etc.) it may happen that one just forgets about such plans…
Anyway, here it is – this nice little one-tracker from various artists such as:

Kool G Rap, MF Grimm, Akinyele, CJ Moore and Big Chuck. The record that was pressed in 1996 doesn’t mention any label but still I think it’s a legit press (also I never seen another version than this one here). The track is called “stay strapped” and was produced by Dr. Butcher who is also responsible for many other productions of the cats Kool G Rap and MF Grimm.
Now some of you may also recognize that track but not exactly under this name as it was also released again on MF Grimm’s “scars & memories” but this time it was titled “aids”.

Finally some new ish I just dug last weekend at my homie’s record store here in Bienne. Was sum kinda midnight-digging-session… well we originally been there to party (the whole city was celebrating their annual city fair with parties n bars all over the place) but me n my man Mirro didn’t pay attention to that when we had the chance to dig in this crate-palace with no other people in our way!!!
The crates were stuffed with great stuff (hi-tech, hdm, powerule, dutchim etc.) that I already got but still we were able to detect here n there some records we never seen though. Sum of em were crap but sum were def worth to cop n post in here – for example this one from…

CIN CLICK. As I never heard of them before I just checked the internet fur further information….nothing! so from the little I can tell you from the label here we go: the label is called Dauphine Productions (one of the emcees label), released back in 1997 and obviously comin from Massachusetts. It also reads Gas Chamber productions on the label but have no clue if this is related to the Mo’Budded Pham in some way?!?
The main title is called “block shot” with smooth jingle’s & a rather soft bass-line. The track and the rhymes are okay (even though sometimes the flow of the mcs comes close to Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony) but it is not a real banger for sure! However, on the flip you get the track I really like that is called “struggle”. The sample construction is very solid, rhymes tight and the bass line pushes more so this makes the track a damn nice one to me!

Sum hardcore Bronx ish on the set today, comin from „Strength Enforcing Serious Harm”, also known as…

S.E.S.H. the crew originally consisted of about 12 members(!) but the talking was always bout the three cats grippin the mic – Lamp, Sgt. Ore and Sigga.
In 1996 they had their first release, independently done on their own Sesh Records label, bringing totally 3 tracks. The twelve starts wit “definition s.e.s.h.”, a grimey n sombre masterpiece supported by aggressively spit rhymes. On the flip is the track “killa ill” that stands out with its sick but smooth samples you constantly get to hear there plus a strong piano sample that is roundin up the whole tune. Last but not least comes “battalion” which is my winner on here. Why? Well check it out!

S.e.s.h._definition sesh-12“

In 1998 the crew was able to finally release their full length titled “4535”. So far I just found this one as CD and dunno if it was even released on vinyl. If anyone knows that please add in the comments, mad appreciated!
Nowadays S.E.S.H. ain’t no mo’, means the crew split up. But u still can find in the net its original members that are JonLAMP and SiggaPonTrigga.

World Renown

Well then, another day, another review from one of Mirro’s records…

John Doe and 7 Shawn were forming the great duo that is known as WORLD RENOWN. I’m sure y’all heard their other two twelves (come take a ride // how nice I am) that were released on Warner Bros in 1994 & 95. this one here is the last twelve of them I personally know of and it was released later to the other two records (some when in the late 90s I guess) and brings the tracks “back on the rebound” that contains a sample you should recognize from Souls of Mischief’s 93-banger “that’s when ya lost” plus on the war-side of this record you have the song “war chant” that (if I remember correctly) was also used in one of JR Ewing’s many mixtapes.
Both tracks are IMO pretty OK but definitely sound different to their older stuff which I prefer little bit more. If I had to make a choice then I’d say that “war chant” is my winner on this wax.

World Renown_back on the rebound-12”

To complete WR’s discography in here I have to mention that they also had an unofficial release of their album (don’t know if it was done by them cats or if it was a boot). Even though I could do a review of that here too (as one of my homies got that rare LP in his cratez) I won’t as WR still plans to make an official release (not only as mp3 but at least as CD, LP not sure...) so I won’t interfere with that!

Today I present you some stuff outta the cratez o’ my homie Mirro (dude’s not online since ages and too lazy to do the necessary steps to get back to the www!)….

GASHOUSE is the name of this crew that consists of the members Will Rock aka Mr Phat, 4-7, R.A.W., Ike and Gi-Son. I quickly checked the usual online sources to get more info on those cats but – nuthin. So lemme share the little information I can provide.
The crew dropped this wax back in 98 on their own Gashouse label and it contains 2 tracks. “smell smoke yet” is the more funky track u gonna find on the a-side. On the flipside u get the track “avengence” that comes a little bit more relaxed. There’s also a remix of this track but I didn’t rip it as it was not that amazing to me.

And the second one for today outta my cratez. This time not a twelve but a nice n small 7incher from…

EMANON (Aloe Blacc & DJ Exile). I don’t wanna lose too much time about those two cats from Cali. For further information u might wanna check their discogs entry.
So this nice 7” brings two awesome tracks u should have heard at least once in your life (especially if u dig that independent thing)!
“the price” is the main title on the record and besides the great beat I got struck by that ill sampling of Robert Goulet.
“emanon” (call me emanon) is the smooth track on the flip and is a song I luv to listen to after a stressful day when sittin on the balcony, sippin sum booze n puffin lah. Man, it’s so easy to relax with this tune and forget bout shit u live thru, try it!
The record was released on the WeSh (weapon shaped) label but not as stated in discogs in 2001 but in 1997 (again wrong information in discogs so I really wonder who is admin / the “wanna-be-approver” there and to the submitter I recommend: read the damn back side of the cover and get enlightened).

Alright people – here we go with another very obscure indie record. This wax brings u the emcee called…

HEAROSHIMA LIVE….. well, this is again one of those records that unfortunately I cannot provide you lots of information to. Online research came up with nuthin and also on other occasions I never heard of that dude.
Too bad there’s only one track on the wax but this one is definitely nice and I really dig that stuff. The track is titled “(automatic) gun tongue” and features I’tal tha Ruffin who is kickin the perfectly fittin ragga-stylish chorus part. The track consists of a main sample u should know from other tunez like e.g. School of Hard Knock’s “hands of a stranger” but besides this the track gets my “2 thumbs up” cuz of the bass line that makes the whole beat soundin’ laid back n also those smooth jingles (sounds like glass bottles!?) are very well placed in the tune…. Awesome!
The record was dropped in 1996 on the small Chase Records label in Philadelphia. I’m not 100% sure but I think this label has nothing to do with the Chase (Dinero) Records of the famous N.B.A. & Aiello Wilson records (pls correct me if I’m wrong!).
Anyway, a record I can definitely recommend!

Alright – 1st of all thanks for the comments and the many emails u headz sent me in the recent days, showin’ luv for the stuff we doin!!!
Today is about a split-12” from the millennium that serves u the emcees …

WAYNE LIVE and NOVA CAIN. The record, released on the Subcity Records label in 2K comes as a limited blue colored vinyl only. Chi-Town rapper Wayne Live had a quite respectable underground hit in 99 with his “think u jammin” and here he brings his follower “still think u jammin?”. This track also introduces another rapper outta Massachusetts u might have already heard – NOVA CAIN. He’s spittin some verses on Wayne’s tune and then also comes correct with his debut on vinyl that is called “the purpose”.
Now, both tracks are very good, funky, a little bit sec maybe but still fresh ish that would often make turns on my 1210s! well, check it out….

Alright then, back on the blog with a very nice and mad overseen EP comin’ outta the Raidermen fam…

… where emcees Born Sin, Sinister Zoe & Stocky Stex form THE FUGITIVES. Under this name they released in 1999 this dope 5-track EP “fugitive life” on the Safecracker Ent. Label (formerly known as Raiderman Ent., but that’s quite obvious when lookin’ at the logo).
The record starts with “countime”, a track that is quite speedy and havin’ good cello samples on it. Next is the tune “plus+”, followed by “lick da platta” that features emcee Stress. The sample on this song is well known from other crews that used it (like e.g. Hollow Point or NYCP). On the flip it starts with the track “live & direct” where Busta Rhymes was spittin’ the refrain-part. Last but least comes the track “fuc da police” (startin’ with a well-placed intro-skit of NWA’s “fuck da police”).
All in all a very solid record that one can’t find lots of information when checkin’ the internet.
I heard that they obviously released a second twelve with tracks like “back against the wall / where it at? / teist & turn” but never could listen to that. So if u got them tracks somewhere pls up them in the comments section – really would like to find out how this one feels!

REMARK: currently in some other blogs the authors are asking for more feedback and y’all know the deal. Mellow stuff in the post from yesterday so today it gotta be ruffa again!

STRONG PEOPLES. I have this record since many years in my crates and almost forgot bout it but some days ago I stumbled over it again when takin out some wax to put a mix together. So I thought that this crew here deserves some shine in our blog.
Strong Peoples have been formed in the mid/late nineties by ex Double XX Posse member Sugar Ray aka Ray Slugs. In 1997 they independently released their (as far as I know) debut-12” with the tracks “not gonna be able to do it” (a link to the old D XX P track), then my favourite “war stories” that is great tune underlined with a mad pushin bass line and – last but not least – “it ain’t safe”. The last song is then also somehow the smoothest one on this twelve using a fine piano sample.

Today i post a pretty dope record from the late nineties and the tunez on it is defintely something you may use after a stressful day, dispute with yo’ honey, being fu??ed by the cops or whatever as this is material to calm down and relax…

SONIC SUM, consisting of Rob Sonic (here his myspace), Erik M.O. and Fred Ones released this beautiful piece of wax in 1999 on the Ozon label. This label may ring bells to those who are familiar with the releases of “The Khromozomes Projekt”, “Thawfor”, “Mike Ladd” and so on (the first two artists mentioned here were even reviewed in our blog some time ago…). Nuff rambling on the label, back to the record. The a-side brings you the main title “callarama gala” starting this EP smoothly and with a decent and perfectly fitting bass line. The next is the remix of the track “downtown maze” (the original mix was released on a twelve a year before). Also this track is just right to sit back, sippin juice n probably take out the weed-bag too… on the flip u got the very spherical “flatlands”. This beat convinces with melodies that can take your mind on an astrally trip and the whole track is underlined with a very soft and slow-moving bass line. Additionally the cuts from Fred Ones just fit on the whole work like penis in a pussy! awesome song, that’s all I can say. Last but not least comes the so called bonus track on that twelve that is titled “wayne neutron”. This beat is to me a little bit different than the other 3 ones as it comes more in a electro-funky way. Still it sounds very solid to me and I wouldn’t wanna miss this one on here.

Alright guys, here’s a special post this time that I’d put under the category of “broaden one’s horizon”. Since we started this blog in autumn 2006 we showed you great pieces of independent work from the US, UK, Canada and even little from Germany and France. But so far (I’m almost ashamed to say so) we didn’t rep our country Switzerland in any single way, so this gotta change now!!! here’s a piece that I recommend to give a listen to, even though u might face “some difficulties” in understanding the Swiss-German language (well, let’s be honest, u won’t understand any single word!). still u can listen to the flow and especially the beats as they are of a great quality! Nuff bla-bla now so let’s head to them guys from the crew….

PRIMITIVE LYRICS. The crew was founded in 1991 and is therefore one of the oldest in the “Swiss Rap Game”. It consisted of 7 members, a number quite massive but reasonable as you gotta know that they were always playing their sound live on stage. In 1993 they released their first twelve called “tescht”, followed 94 by their first LP. On these productions u definitely feel the influence from the Beastie Boys as their sound was also soundin’ ruff/crossover-like. Then PL took a break for tours etc. in 1995 the PL changed their style (to the good!) with Kay Zee using samples for the first time and creating with that tracks with a psychedelic, sombre and very dense atmosphere that to me sound also little bit like they got influenced by the Wu Tang fam.

This twelve/ep was called “druck vo allne siite” (pressure from all sides) and is to me the best piece they did (and one of the best in whole Swiss rap). So on the a-side you find a track called “uf de luur” (to sit in ambush) – an awesome track, frankly speakin. The second track I put in here as well is to be found on the flip and is called “Hr. Schtei Gerig” that heads in our country know as “schtei” which means nothing else than “stoned”. In this track the crew is on the storytellin’ trip givin funny tales bout stoned people in summer in the city of Zurich (btw also the city the crew comes from). The record was released, as mentioned, in 1995 on the small Swiss REC REC label.

In 1997 PL dropped their last piece, the 2LP „plag“ (menace). Around 2000 PL disbanded unfortunately but their stuff is still live in the heads of those people who were growin’ up in the 90s!

‚sup people? Today a nice twelve from the emcee…

TERRAW. His 1st wax-release (to my knowledge) was back in 1998 on the New Yorker label BeatForce Recordings and this is again one of that tunez I was lookin for for ages but had difficulties to source as I just didn’t know the track-ID. “check it out” is the awesome song I’m talking bout and this was a tune that was on heavy rotation at the jams I’ve been that time- heavy basslines and a dark n grimy vibe made this track such a hunted gem to me! So I was almost jerkin’ off when I downloaded a promising lookin’ snippet in a forum and then realised after a blink that this is the one I’m lookin’ for since way back then!
The main title on this wax is called “fevah” that features ragga-dudes Balli & Kemis and is quite solid as well but none compared to the flipside!

BIGFOOT. Here we brought u the review bout his crazy “invazion-12”. Well, few weeks ago I stumbled across another record of this man and from what I know this was his last release on vinyl. The twelve I mean is from 2000 and was on his own Swampcity Records label (distributed by Echo Intl.). it contains (my personal fav) “the quest” – containing a well-known sample that’s finely played with a piano. On the b-side you have “bx confidentials” where Bigfoot is reppin the Bronx with support from COVER/C.O.D.! the last song is named “altered states” and that woman’s voice-sample in this tune should be well-known too (Jedi Mind Tricks used this too in the approx. same time period)…

This is an entry I did cuz of the post my man Al did on his blog bout the DownLow Ent. Label that was showing the remix project of the smashing single “tried by 12”, performed by The East Flatbush Project ft Des. So the ultra-smooth “laid to rest mix” on it was produced by UK’s finest crew …

SCIENTISTS OF SOUND. Therefore the post here is now about this crew and the releases to be featured here are from this exact label and the same year – 1996.
First we start with the single-release with the great track “landmine situation”. This mad pushing track comes as the “Jedi’s Knife Mix” (that sounds to me same as the original on the album…) and the laid back “terran formula remix”. The real gem on this twelve is hidden inconspicously on the flip-side. It is the non-album track “scroll of the fake assassins” and another certified banger for sure!

THE DOXXMEN. I tried to source any kinda information bout this crew but the net led me to….zip! well almost…when you get search-results then it’s mostly from sales n some mixes that featured the crew (yeah serch4beatz!). anyway, let me share the little knowledge I can provide and that I know definitely:
Tracks on that ill twelve are “magnetic attrack” which is my real winner.... I know that most peeps got crazy bout the flipsider “spontaneous combustion” (which is a great track too, no doubt!) but that other ish got me hooked!
Well, the record was released on the small A LITTLE PHAT HOMELESS BOY PRODUCTION INC. label (what a great name!) and date was some when in the late 90s (read somewhere in the net 1997 but not sure bout this).
Also I read in a forum that there was obviously even an album planned that never saw the daylight but I haven’t found more info on that (JAZ, if u read this maybe u can hook us up wit sum more details?!?).
OK then – frankly speakin: that twelve is tha bomb so make sure u got that mad wax in yo cratez!

The second track on this side is called “homicide” and is my winner. A very melancholic melody with Dead’s voice fitting perfectly over this tune.

Startin’ this week with the label P-Jays Recordings that is owned by DJ Greyboy.
First I re-upped the starter of this label (PJ-001) that we posted like 20 months ago already and where the link to sound files is dead now. So this is from the crew …

12 JEWELZ. So the first release on this P-Jays label was dropped in 1997 and that time Greyboy wasn’t on the production (as later on he was responsible for all forthcomin’ productions on that fine label). Here it was a guy called Gray Madduh. 12 Jewelz kicked here their super smooth tracks “foolish mentality” and “outside world”.

A year later came the second release by this crew. This time DJ Greyboy was doin’ the production and so you can find here the songs “shadow of death”, a very sombre piece that lets you rest and just listen to the beats and the b-sider “crystalize” that is also quite solid (well, another bassline would have been better I guess…anyway).

Today I have a nice single from an album that was (to me knowledge) only released on CD.

HOT BUTTER is the name of this combo-project and the album’s titled “a new chamber”.
Released in 1998, label is C&S Records and the promo release here brings you the track “a jazzy rhyme”, performed by M.M.O. (that is TRIGGA, known from his famous “NY carjack-12”) and featuring The Massive. The b-side is with the beat “me, so, la, so, me” and “the last poet” where Russ Prez (also responsible for productions on all the tracks) is bringing his poems. Another person on the production here is Storm (ex-member of the Outlawz). The crew Hot Butter is, without a doubt, outta the depths of the all overshadowing Wu Tang fam! This is also why on the record (sticker on the sleeve) and also on the CD you find the “Protect Ya Neck Production” label…
In here you’ll only gonna find the title “a jazzy rhyme” as this is the shit on the twelve! Good rhymes n flows that harmonise with the fine melody (made of 2 different piano-samples) and a smooth underlining bass.

Here’s a piece from another crew that was in this game for long time as well….

POWERULE! The PRC started releasing their stuff in the late 80s already and then during the early and mid 90s. the last release from them I’m personally aware of is their well known 97-smasher “bright lights, big city” (Dolo Records).
So here’s a record that was probably kicked out in the mid-90s on the Black Waxx Records label. “rhymes to bust” and “it’s your right” are the tracks that you gonna find on the vinyl. Both tracks were produced by Powerule and Mark Ronson. The a-sider is that typa ol-skool sample y’all know already and therefore (IMO) not that amazing but still funny to hit that tune at parties sometimes. “it’s you right” is the perfectly laid back track to listen to in summer time while chillin’ at the beach and sippin’ some guice. Well, it wouldn’t have needed Nino’s guest-voice on it but hey – even I can overlook that here! It’s all about relaxin’ man, no grumbling nah’mean!

better known as KOOL KEITH! Here u have an awesome sick twelve from the man with the many faces that was dropped in 1996 on his own Funky Ass Records.
The record brings the titles “wanna be a star”, produced by Peanut Butter Wolf and the flipsider “slide we fly”, featuring the Noggin’ Nodders and bein’ produced by Kut Masta Kurt.
Both beats just perfectly fit to Kool’s sick flow n rhymin’ style and so both tracks are great, even can’t say which of ‘em I’d prefer…

JEDI SON OF SPOCK. This emcee from Flatbush, Brooklyn is also a member of the obscure (and therefore very sought after material) HOUSE OF REPS and besides that had several guest appearances such as on DJ SHOK’s “padlock/s.o.s.” twelve.
His only solo-piece up to date was released on the Headbop label and gots the two tracks “the journey” and “spitmode”. Both tracks are the shit IMO so this makes this wax to one of those I’d put on my turntables rather frequently… on the track “spitmode” you also have emcee YESHUA DA POED on the mic who’s also responsible for the production of both tracks on this wax.

DIEZZLE DON & GOVNA. This record was released in 1998 on the Lockdown Recordings. On the vinyl you’ll find two tracks: on the a-side the title “ghetto red hot” that features well-known partner in smokin’ buddah – FUNK DOC aka REDMAN. On the flipside you get served with my personal fav, the track “step into the realm”.
Well, the duo released many other works (also both of em dropped some ish solo – here u can find one from Govna). From all of them wax I mostly recommend you to cop their LP “1995 – year of the independent”.

Nice little 1-tracker rite here from…

I recently found this nice record in a “wun-dolla-bin” at a local record store and by already lookin at it (font/style of the sticker) I knew that this gotta be related in a way with Diehard Records. and indeed when reading the credits on the label it mentions that engineering/production was all done at the Diehard studios.
But let’s stop that digression n get back to tha wax that has the track “rock it” on it, performed by (to me) totally unknown THAT CAT NAT. this emcee gets sum backup by another guest rapper that rung bells when I read it….RICHIE THUMBS, emcee from Detroit (if I remember correctly) had already some feat-parts on productions like e.g. Pacewon.
The beat comes phat n hard, not much melody-stuff in here. Shit is sec like the fart of a Brussels biscuit n so I had to cop that record (also considering that I only paid very few bucks for it).

On this record you gonna find the tracks “dot vs tmr” and the winning b-sider “you’re all alone”. This track was produced by Kanye West (damn, what nice beats this man was able to produce also considering earlier work of him like on Grav’s album and now you hear his new shit wastin yo ears on every radio-channel…too bad!) and also features another rapper you should know when you’re a frequent reader of our blog – FIERCE. Fierce also was guest emcee on a second 12” he dropped in the same year but for all those details I recommend to hit his discogs-entry.

Let’s switch coasts and go to west – South Central LA this time. This is a post about rapper …

KRONDON alias Marvin James. Always stain true to his roots this emcce managed to get first credits n fame when the track “the rules” was featured on DJ Rhettmatic’s (Beat Junkies) mixtape in 1998. this was when he dropped his first record on Heavyweight that includes this ultra-smooth track called “the rules”! besides that the twelve brings more heat in the form of the track “mic v.s.o.p.” and the sleeper “thin minutes”….in all those years I got that wax now this became somehow my fav on it.

The next one to show up in the scene was then the 2000 release with the wonderful “the best form” on it. That record, dropped on S.O.L. Music Works, brings besides this track another two called “james worthee” and the great “god spawn” that also features guest emcee Chace Infinite of Self Scientific.

Then the next one is a record I really doubt that the given information in discogs is correct! Labelwise (Lockdown Ent. / S.O.L. Music Works) this is correct but the record was def released way earlier than 2003! I bought my copy also around the millennium year….anyway, let’s head to the content. On this vinyl you get two other very solid tracks titled “black gold” and “miraculous”.

Some weeks ago we showed you here his first drop, this is the more famous release that followed lil’ bit later in 1996 on the same Damage Records label. The main title is “relax your mind” that is a hella-smooth track that keeps its promises (this track plus sum herbs or sum booze n ya def gonna feel relaxed!!). the next track is a sledgehammer again, the remix version of “execution style”. On the flip you get, last but not least, the awesome “business”. So all in all I can say that T-Max dropped here a piece of wax that shouldn’t be missin in yo cratez – pure heat! here’s a nice record outta Michigan state – the Artfull Dodgers…

the crew was formed back in the early 90s and in 1994 emcees B.Gozza and Jackpot hooked up with producer Phizyx and released their first stuff under the former name “The Juggernaut”.in 1996 they disbanded but only one year later came back and reformed the crew under the name ARTFULL DODGERS. The same year they also dropped their first EP called “dusted world”. Then the homes didn’t waste time and started the work on their first full-length “lazy eyes” and the twelve we present you here is outta this album from 1999. it contains the Midwestern underground hit “1 mic then pass”, my personal fav “love changes”, “prototype” and on the flip, besides the instrumentals, the 97-mix of the track “the girlies I like”.

CRAZ dropped the two raw tunes "some try to copy" and "step up" you get served on the twelve here on the Echo label back in 1996 (although the tracks is soundin’ more early 90s to me than that). Production credit goes to well known Frankie Cutlass.

And here’s an EP from the to my totally unknown crew …

The GHETTO DAWGZ is the name of this obscure posse and I gotta admit I didn’t have any clue what I was ordering that time but as it was for decent price … let’s say I didn’t give a f---. So when I got the parcel and then put that record on the tables I was very curious. Well let’s say, I was 50% disappointed and 50% happy with that ep. It comes with totally 4 tracks and two of them (“the freaks theme” and “round n round”) were crap. R’n’B-yodeling paired with raps? Nah man, not me n this is also the reason why ya won’t get em tracks here (my life’s really too short to rip such bulls..t!). but the other two tracks ya gonna find on that record are actually very good and ya’re really surprised to hear such vibes! “buttas” and “pass it!” are the titles of those nice tunes ya also gonna find in the rip here. the only sad thing is that ya get the censored versions only and as these emcees often use "very bad words" the rhymes sometimes are soundin too chopped...
Well, there ain’t much details I can provide you to this crew. Released on the Now Or Never label in 1998, 1 or 2 years later they dropped a kinda full-length that is called “Shystee Blendz Vol. 1 by Ghetto Dawgz” that also contains all te tracks from this ep here. But to my knowledge this album was a CD and tape release only… besides I think that these homes are comin from Flatbush, NY but that’s all the data I have to share (if u got more then holla in the comments section).

On the b-side you get served again with the tracks “players pinnacle” and “crap game” but these are same tracks as on their former 12” they released in 95 independently on their MBP records. If u wanna see the other MBP-reviews then check our site-archives in Dec. 2006 (that’s rite man – D.I.T.I.C-blog is existing long time already, baby!).

SAUKRATES dropped this bomb in 1995 on the Genesis label and brings you with that terrific vinyl two tracks plus a remix. The main title is “hate runs deep” and I think I don’t need to say much on the quality of this track (holy shit, what a burner)! The remix of this track you got on this twelve was done by Down Ta Erf and is almost as amazing as the original mix. Additionally you have another jewel on this wax that is called “get touched” that is the bonus track.

“skills prevail!” – a good, short and sec statement done by emcee…

The reason why I copped that record wasn’t the “skills prevail” track, which is a very good n grimy one. To me it was all about the b-sider “sex you” that I knew from those great mid-90s mixes we heard on Swiss radio Couleur3 all the time…
One nice fact I just noted is that in discogs you find the entry for the “red-version”, means the one that has the red writing on the label and was obviously released only in 1998.

as you see on my scan this label is with black writing and on my copy it says that this wax was dropped 2 years earlier, in 1996! Label is both times the same – Venom Records.
